Reading control 2 Summary Now that Percy arrived in the Half Blood Camp, he had that rare feeling when someone cleans one's room and s/he has been looking through one's private stuff. However, on the surface, things did not look all that different.  Nevertheless, there was an atmosphere of danger; people were stockpiling weapons in the tool shed. To Tyson, all of what was happening there did not matter; he was fascinated by all the things he was seeing in the camp. Afterwards, Percy decided to introduce Tyson to Chiron, the Half Blood Camp principal, who was in an apartment of the Big House. Chiron was a centaur who could compact his lower half horse-shaped body into a magic wheelchair, but he prefered to hang out in his centaur form. He told Percy and company that he had been blamed for poisoning the Thalia's tree; which is why some in the Olympus did not trust him. Chiron was going to be substituted by Dionysus, who was the god of wine. He seemed to be very ha...

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (Lilia Araujo)

Reading Control 2 Title:  Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2005) Brief summary of the chapters you have read between the previous control and this one: In previous chapters, Percy had been experiencing problems at school that were beyond strange and, as a result of other factors such as his misbehaving, he ended up being expelled from school. Later, he travelled with his mom to their favourite place, just to be attacked by unknown creatures. To his surprise, not only his best friend but also his mom would act in an unusual way. Briefly describe the most important aspects of the story and how the plot develops: Right when his mom and he were being attacked, Grover arrived. And this occurrence not being rare enough, he also came in a form that Percy had never seen before: with cloven hooves instead of feet. Because of this, he admitted his true form, the one of a satyr. Due to these past events, Grover had no other choice but to tell Percy what exactly...

Reading Control 1 Title: Frankenstein (1818) Author: Mary Shelley Genre: Gothic Chapters: 24 Setting: Europe, 18th century Characters:  Victor Frankenstein: Impulsive scientist whose plan was creating a new human being starting off from unusual elements to fulfil the necessity of knowing the mystery side of life. Elizabeth: Victor's sister whose past was complicated but always supported Victor. Henry: Victor's old friend with a talent for poetry and a different personality than Victor's. He stayed with him in complex situations. Mr. Waldam: Victor's professor who encouraged him to study natural sciences but with the aim of studying its hidden side. Why have I chosen this book? I enjoyed reading this kind of literary genre because its background shows the inquietude of some people by doing something beyond reality and how things can convert suddenly in a dystopia. Summary of Chapter 1 to 6: Everything begins with the story of how Victor’s pa...

Reading Control 1 Title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2005) Author: Rick Riordan Genre: Fantasy and Adventure Chapters:  22 Setting: So far, it looks like the story takes place in New York and, apparently, it is set in the XXI century. Characters: Percy Jackson: a sarcastic and troubled, 12-year-old, green-eyed, black-haired boy with apparently bad luck. Apart from that, he tends to be negative in the sense that he talks a lot about his flaws: that he tends to space out (as a result of his ADHD), and that he tends to have problems reading (as a result of his dyslexia). He mentions that he's a half-blood. Grover Underwood: Percy's best friend: a boy that tries to avoid problems and that cries when he gets frustrated, and whose mission looks like it is to protect Percy. In addition, he is crippled, so it is difficult for him to move quickly. Why have I chosen this book? Ever since I watched the films I have wanted to read the actual ...

Annabeth: One of Percy's best friends. Why have I chosen this book? I am really fond of the science-fiction genre in movies and books, so I have seen the movies of Percy Jackson's saga. Therefore, I consider that it will be really interesting to have a look at the book in order to get to know more about these stories. In addition, I wanted to read a book that...
