Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters (Uziel Beltrán)

Reading control 2

Summary

Now that Percy arrived in the Half Blood Camp, he had that rare feeling when someone cleans one's room and s/he has been looking through one's private stuff. However, on the surface, things did not look all that different.
Nevertheless, there was an atmosphere of danger; people were stockpiling weapons in the tool shed. To Tyson, all of what was happening there did not matter; he was fascinated by all the things he was seeing in the camp. Afterwards, Percy decided to introduce Tyson to Chiron, the Half Blood Camp principal, who was in an apartment of the Big House. Chiron was a centaur who could compact his lower half horse-shaped body into a magic wheelchair, but he prefered to hang out in his centaur form. He told Percy and company that he had been blamed for poisoning the Thalia's tree; which is why some in the Olympus did not trust him.
Chiron was going to be substituted by Dionysus, who was the god of wine. He seemed to be very haughty and as if he did not even care about the safety of the camp population. There was also a man next to the new principal; he looked angry and frustrated at the same time. This man made Percy's life impossible because he had an unjustified hatred towards all of them. For example, he used to make fun of Tyson in a cruel way and, as if that was not bad enough, everybody would also do, following the principal’s steps.
In addition, Dionysius decided to make several changes to the camp’s daily life; among those changes there was to carry out the chariot races again which had been actually discontinued because of the danger they implied. However, Jackson and Tyson got prepared for the race, but something strange happened; Percy dreamt again about Grover being in danger. For some reason, Grover was dressed as a bride. Anyways, the boy woke up and got prepared for the famous race. The race was going as expected until some bronze pigeons suddenly appeared and attacked the chariots. Most of the contestants were helping to kill those creatures but just one group did not: the Ares’ chariot; so as a foregone conclusion, they won.

After a few days, Annabeth, Percy and Tyson figured out a way of healing the Thalia’s tree. Unfortunately, in order to do so, they needed to fight a Cyclops named Polyphemus, the worst of Cyclopes.

Important Aspects of the Story

Among the most important aspects of this title is that Percy gets to know his half-brother Tyson, who is also a Cyclops, and they start developing some important attitudes. For example, Tyson shows his loyalty and bravery when it comes to protecting others, especially his brother. On the other hand, Percy has started getting worried about the safety of the camp in such a way that he would risk his life in order to do so.
Regarding the development of the plot, the main characters are located in the Half-blood Camp fighting against the obstacles the new person in charge was setting. However, in every trouble they have, they manage to successfully solve each of them.

Which Character can I Identify with?

As it was previously mentioned, Percy's character has really evolved. What I admire about him is that despite his young age, he has acquired some attitudes that are really difficult to develop, even at an older age. In addition, I can feel identified with some aspects of Percy's personality because he is quiet and thinks a lot of stuff, however, he does not usually show those thoughts.
