Title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2005)
Information about how the main events are developing:
Percy finally discovered who his father was, and after that Chiron told him he had to consult the Oracle to hear from it what he should do next. It told him that he had to go west and face a god that had turned and that he would also retrieve something that had been stolen. Additionally, it also said that he would fail in achieving what mattered the most.
Later, they decided to spend the night in the woods after what happened with Medusa. There, they found a poodle that had ran away from home and they also discovered that Grover could talk to animals. The dog, whose name was Gladiola, wanted to help them go to Los Angeles. With the money of the rescue they couldn't go that far but, with the help Ares gave them after doing him a favour, they had another opportunity to travel. The van they were travelling on had problems and they had to stay in Las Vegas. There, they spent 5 days at the Lotus Casino without even noticing, having only one day left to complete the quest.
After visiting Hades and having fought against Ares sometime later, Percy went successfully to retrieve the thunderbolt to Zeus. He met his father for the first time, and there they solved the conflict.
When they returned to the camp, Percy had a fight with Luke, and it was there where he understood what the Oracle meant when it said that he would be betrayed by a friend.
Finally, Annabeth left the camp temporarily to go with her family and Percy decided that he would do the same.
Information about how the situations are being solved by providing concrete examples:
In previous chapters, Chiron told Percy that Annabeth had always wanted to go on a quest but that the Oracle told her that she had to wait for the right time. Now, she finally got the opportunity to go with both Percy and Grover to retrieve the stolen thunderbolt.
The three got to understand that they needed to think and cooperate in order to not die, as it happened when they were fighting against Medusa. Grover distracted her, Annabeth made a plan, and Percy was the one who cut her head.
After the fight they had on the bus against some Furies, it exploded and they lost everything. They didn't have any money, but with the help of Gladiola, they could earn some since his owners were offering a reward for his return.
They decided to visit a place, but there Percy was attacked by Echidna and her Chimera while he was alone. He tried to fight, but the Chimera had poisoned him so he was in a lot of danger. There and then, he decided to trust in his father and jump to the lake that was next to the building they were at despite the height. He was really surprised when he noticed that he was fine, that he could breathe underwater, and that he wasn't wet. He thanked his father but, as he expected, he didn't reply.
While they were at the Lotus Casino, Percy noticed that something was off. When he asked people around what year it was, each of them answered something different, implying that they had stayed there for an awful amount of time. Then, he decided they had to leave until it was too late and they forgot everything about themselves.
They eventually found their way to the Underworld but, when they faced Hades, he accused Percy of not only having stolen the thunderbolt, but also his helmet. Because of this, Percy promised his uncle that he would find the real thief and that he would rescue his mother, whom he held hostage.
Percy fought against Ares, who lied to him, and he defeated him. After that, he asked the Furies to return the helmet to Hades and tell him the truth.
Information about any switch the story or the characters have suffered:
When Percy heard what the Oracle said, he got scared, because it also said something about him being betrayed by a friend. He didn't know what to do with that information, so he kept it to himself. In addition, he felt irritated with the gods for a long time because of what they made them do to the point he sent Medusa's head to Mount Olympus, the place where they were at.
Besides that, Annabeth had a change in her attitude after Percy saved her when they were attacked by Furies on the bus. She, for the first time, called him brave and thanked him for what he did. Also, she opened up about what was on her mind at that time, and she did so too when Percy asked her what she would do if she was in his position: if her dad had been taken by Hades. She told him about her past, and how she was an unwanted child to her father.
In addition, Grover also got to open up about what he had been struggling with for so many years: how he still felt guilty after what happened with Thalia, and also with how much he wants to do a mission but how scared he is of dying in the process.
